The first Special Comment I saw (World Trade Center site), I nearly wept. Not because of the tragedy of 9/11 for which time has helped strengthen me against the pain and turn me to resolution to do the right thing... no. I nearly wept because I saw someone speaking directly, honestly, intelligently, and dissentingly against the Bush adinistration -- ON THE TELEVISION! Sure Stewart will report the ridiculous and show the lies. But to hear someone speak as the voice of so many educated millions who don't understand what has happened to our country, and what has happened to our voice in the world... that's something I haven't experienced in many years. Thank you so much, Keith.

FINALLY! Five years after 9-11, someone with power (i.e., access to mainstream media) is speaking up about the blind patriotism that has been spoon fed to us for so long. Olbermann's rants about the politics of fear, the incompetancy/outright lying of our President and his cabinet, etc., are right on! Not only is he intelligent and inspirational, he's entertaining too. 

The only thing I don't like on Countdown is the nightly segment on gossip issues. I could care less about Brittney & K-Fed. I realize his producers "force" him to cover these topics, but every night?!? I can see how critics would see this segment as undermining his overall credibility. 

Still, keep up what you're doing Keith, so more people in this country will wake up from this massive "God-is-an-American" stupor!

Mr. Olbermann is the only "news person" on TV (I cannot in good conscience list Stewart and Colbert as journalists, but do admit that I learn more from them than most people apopearing on TV) who dares to say the emperor has no clothes.

Bill Moyers or Lou Dobbs would be the closest second. But Olbermann has made commentaries that haven't seen the likes of day on NBC in 30 years.

And I also appreciate his nightly Countdown since "Mission Accomplished" as well as the nod to Murrow.

What's been missing over the past five years have been people who gave voice, and took some risk, to open their mouths and tell the truth -- directly, elequently, forcefully; consistently... and not only in a five-second sound bite, or an arch but careful comment from Mike Wallace. 

There was no one. We all knew how bad and how disassociated from reality much of the country had become. How teflon these creatures who are destroying our country seemed; nothing seemed to touch them. And the MSM went right along -- never asking questions. Promoting their fog of illusions. Even with the murderous disaster of Katrina, the anger and righteous criticisim of this hideously disconnected and incompetent gang didn't last more than a few news cycles...

Then, in the most unlikeliest of places, that same MSM -- Keith Olbermann spoke up in a crystal clear voice and delivered unvarnished analyses of The American Tragedy we are still living through. 

(The fact that he had been doing so on MSNBC since the Peevish Dullard was appointed president, questioning the farce of the Florida vote counting, then 2004 in Ohio, may not even have been known by all that many in this country -- so Olbermann is hardly jumping on someone else's bandwagon. Among too many self-important network commentators without courage or integrity, he's an original.)

More important than anything else, Kieth Olbermann's commentary gives others an example, and the courage to speak up. And that is the best antidote to a sense of isolation, and the myth of the invincibility of this pack of criminals. 

Olbermann keeps telling America that the Hand-Puppet in the White House has no clothes. Now, people can see it -- and every time Keith speaks, more can see it.

NBC: There isn't a price that can be put on the level of integrity Kieth Olbermann has demonstrated. You can't buy the Truth. Telling the Truth isn't a marketing strategy. It's a public obligation for what once claimed to be an independent media.

Keith, keep talking. More and more people are listening.

Countdown is the only TV show I watch. It's a "date." My only must see TV.

I turn the TV on just before 8:00 PM, making sure the mute is on so I don't hear a single word from Tucker Carlson, listen to Countdown, and press the OFF button as soon as Keith says "Good Night." If I have to miss the early show I try to see the midnight repeat.

I do wish that MSNBC would get their transcripts up in a more timely manner. There is no reason to have to wait 24-72 hours to check on something like the name of a guest from that day's show.

since the first go-round with MSNBC,

Though I've long been witness to
and admired your skill and respect
for the word, especially during
the Sep. 11 radio reports

This, I believe, was the best comment I've seen by Mr. Olbermann. He is coming into his own as a commentator, rising to the occasion this historical moment demands. At times I've felt Mr. Olbermann was channeling Edward Murrow, but not today. The blazing but tightly focused anger, a laser of abrading moral fire, is Olbermann's own persona coming through. He is fresher, more energetic than ever before, energized by the gravity of presidential abuses and the concurrent groundswell of popular opposition. 

Compared to the lukewarm pabulum served up by most TV commentators, Olbermann's words are shocking in their vehemence and plain truth. Shocking, because I don't want to face what our country has become and my own powerlessness to halt this slide into repressive police state authoritarianism. I pray our nation is resilient enough to recover some day from this horrific vandalism of its Constitution and essential principles.

Mr. Olbermann: I want to commend you. I try to watch your show each night and what I miss I try to follow on messageboards, the msnbc 
page and youtube. Thank you for having the courage to express your special comment tonight on the signing of the MCA. Nothing has scared me recently like the signing of this legislation. No matter how it's spun, we have essentially said as a country that we, and only we, can define what torture is. And if that wasn't enough, if that wasn't enough for us to have lost what 
little moral high ground we still had in the world, we go so far as to also allow our President to determine whether someone should have the most basic rights of justice that our country was based upon. No President, democrat or 
republican, should have that power. 

Your comments tonight regarding those Americans who have been imprisoned in our country under previous administrations when their rights were suspended hit home for me. Here in North Dakota, we have a very large German ancestry. 
Many Germans came to the US and settled in ND in the late 1800s. Some came later and as a result, were imprisoned in a camp in ND during WWII. These were 
German Americans who had come here to make a better life only to be treated like the country they had escaped from. One such prisoner was a great uncle of mine. 

Thank you for having the strength and courage to keep speaking out, to keep fact checking what we are being told by our leaders, and to keep pushing for us to not roll over and live in the fear that our leaders are telling us we should be in. Thank you, Mr. Olbermann. Keep doing what you're doing.

Keith Olbermann has, in my view, surpassed Jon Stewart as the most potent and valuable voice on television. Stewart still has an obligation to joke about the situation, but Olbermann can just say what so many of us are thinking, with his "special comments", and say them with the urgency and the strength they deserve. 

He's a lone voice of sanity in a sea of misdirection and propaganda.

For too long most members of the MSM have limited their criticism of George Bush to statements such as "He misled us into a war with Iraq". This politeness has always bothered me because, in the first place, Webster's New World Dictionary defines mislead as 1. to lead in a wrong direction, 2. to deceive or delude, and 3. to lead into wrongdoing. In the second place, George Bush is not a leader, I was not deceived, and I have never followed him.

George Bush did not mislead us, he LIED to us. He has LIED to us over and over and over again. Thank you so much for being one of the few to loudly and clearly speak the truth. If it wasn't for Countdown, I wouldn't watch any television news. Bravo!

My mother celebrated her 80th birthday this past Monday. 

She had to scrape enough money together to hand sew a dress so that she wouldn't look "poor" when her class went to see "Gone With the Wind" in 1939 (she was 13). She drove a laundry truck, bussed heavy automat trays and stuffed dill in pickle jars on an assembly line during WWII, while taking stenography classes (she didn't have the luxury of wealth for college). Lived through the spectre of McCarthyism, the fear of the Bay of Pigs (but not so scared that she didn't start her family at the age of 36). Witnessed the horrors of Vietnam. Put plastic on windows and closed off some of the rooms in our home during the energy crunch. Managed to put three girls through college and pay for it. 

She votes every election, and yes, she is a Roosevelt Democrat.

She called me after Keith's special comment tonight. 

"I've never seen a journalist speak such truth in such a manner. It scared me to death for him, but made me so proud. It makes me want to thank him and give him a hug."
